Fall Colors & Sunset at Pilot Mountain

This week my friends Courtney and Brent are visiting from Seattle! Courtney and Brent used to live in Winston Salem and I was super bummed when they left (Residency schmesidency). So while they’re here, we’re packing in as many fun fall activities as we can. Hopefully it will remind them how much they loved living here and love me and will move back. 😉

Last night on the agenda was Pilot Mountain. It’s only about 30 minutes from my house but I just always forget about it. I need to visit more often – the views are gorgeous!

Look at all those colors!

We got there just as the sun was starting to go down so all the trees were on fire.

We did the little 0.8 mile hike around the knob.

I love the little lookouts they have leading up to the trail so you can get some great views of the knob. (I hate the word knob…but not as much as I hate the word tidbit.)

The sunset was amazing last night! One bummer about Winston Salem is that it’s hard to see the sunset from most places in town because there just isn’t enough elevation unless you’re in a condo or certain places in neighborhoods. I totally took the ease of seeing sunsets in Utah for granted!

I’m super glad they’re here.

Maizey is also super glad they’re here. Yesterday was her 4th birthday and I think it was her favorite yet. Courtney and Brent took her on a field trip to Old Salem and played with her all night. Lucky girl.

Happy girl. “Look how much fun I’m having Mom! Can Courtney move in??” 😉

Which do you prefer: sunrise or sunset? I like sunrise best myself. 🙂

Wow, what a gorgeous view and the leaves look amazing! I love this time of year so much.

I’m more of a sunset girl. I love sitting by a fire and watching the sunset with a cool drink and my hubby. 🙂

I love the colors! Amazing! I used to live in New England but now live in Southern California….I don’t miss the snow (or humidity, or bugs, or rain) but MAN do I miss seeing colors like this in the fall! Great shot.
