I got an AeroGarden last year from the lovely folks at MiracleGro and I’ve loved having it, especially during the bleak winter months. I’ve grown tons of herbs and tons of lettuce in the past year, and it makes me feel like I have quite the green thumb, when I, in fact, do NOT have a green thumb. So, it’s good for my kitchen and it’s good for my ego. 🙂
I just replanted a new set of herbs after being on a lettuce kick.
Aren’t these little pod/mini greenhouse things the cutest? You leave the tops on until the herbs grow up and hit them.
And I’m always amazed at how quickly they grow. I planted these pods on Saturday and three days later, I can see a little Genovese basil sprout popping up! See it??
I’m especially excited about the cilantro because good cilantro is so hard to find in the cooler months and I LOVE cilantro – I use it in everything, including my Paleo Beef & Cilantro Lime Chili, 5 Greens Super Smoothie, Black Bean & Veggie Quesadillas, and All the Best Things Bowl (and while the All the Best Things is generally a cure for skipping takeout, I still got Thai food takeout tonight). And then I ate all the noodles and left behind the veggies – it was that kind of day.
Anyway, I digress…
I’m also excited to try some cocktails with mint, which is growing on the back row. I’m not winter’s biggest fan and something about mint makes me feel like it’s summer. And I happen to have three bottles of flavored vodka that were sent to me and have been sitting unopened for months…because I don’t drink vodka. I’ll take your wine and bourbon but you can keep your vodka.
I mentioned this abundance of vodka to my friend, Meg, who is 37 weeks pregnant (or one zillion weeks, if you ask her) and she promised me that once her sweet baby girl is here, she’ll help me whip up some delicious cocktails using the vodka. And now I need to let her know that the cocktails needs to involve mint. And it should probably involve lots of friends because no one drinks vodka alone, right? Right.
Anyway, I digress again…
I think the AeroGarden would be an awesome holiday gift for the person who has everything, for a foodie who loves having fresh ingredients on hand, for those who love experimenting in the kitchen, for a loved one trying to eat healthier, and/or a someone who has young kids at home. I can totally see little kids having so much fun watching the plants grow.
Alright, let’s get to the good part:
I’m giving away an AeroGarden to one of my readers! To enter, just leave a comment telling me what you would be most excited to grow. A specific herb, lettuce, tomatoes, whatever!
If you want extra entries, here’s how to get them:
Tweet: You you can tweet whatever you want, or you can just use this: “I want to win an AeroGarden from @afoodiestaysfit [link to this post!]” ! Be sure to include my handle and include the URL. And then, be sure to leave a separate comment letting me know you tweeted just in case I miss your tweet for some reason.
