Swiping on lipstick or gloss is an easy way to look and feel polished! I shared my favorites and my go-to shades for a bold or neutral look!
Are you a lipstick wearer? If so, then you probably feel the same way I do about how it completely finishes a look. If I’m not wearing a lipstick or gloss, I don’t feel fully ready, even if I just swipe on a neutral shade. While a heavy eyeshadow look has always felt funny on me, I’ve always loved bold lipstick. It’s easier and faster to dress up my makeup that way too – just keep eyes neutral and put on a bright lip!
Even on days that I don’t feel my best (i.e. many days these days since I’m not sleeping much with a newborn!!), a bright lip really makes me feel alive. I’d had so many people say that I look too good for not sleeping much and honestly, I give a bold lip, a polished brow, and life-changing concealer credit!!!! And yes, even though I never leave the house due to COVID + newborn + working from home, I always have on makeup!! It’s key to getting motivated and staying productive!
Okay, let me back up and share my experience with lipstick in the past: I never, even bought expensive lipstick. Nope, I’ve never even owned a MAC lipstick or even a Clinique one. I just bought the $7-$10 options at the drugstore. But, after I started learning more about what is in most lipstick and glosses, I started buying Beautycounter’s lipstick and lip glosses instead. (You can read why Beautycounter’s products are safer here.) And I’ve LOVED all of them.
Best Beautycounter Lipstick
Beautycounter has three main lip colors: Color Intense Lipsticks, Sheer Genius Lipsticks and Beyond Gloss. The Color Intense Lipsticks are just what they sound like – intense color! They are long-lasting but not drying. The Sheer Genius Lipsticks are lightweight and while some are very sheer, some do have more pigment for more of a color pop. They feel more like a balm than a lipstick. And while I never really liked lipgloss before since I found them very sticky or they tasted nasty, I really love the Beautycounter’s lip gloss. They’re shiny and have a subtle vanilla scent.
All of the lip colors are high performing options, but the Color Intense Lipstick will last the longest without needing to reapply.
All of the Beautycounter makeup shades are designed to work on all skin tones, it’s hard to go wrong with a lip color. But I definitely have some favorites, and I’m sharing those today!
Color Intense Lipstick
If you’re normally a lipstick wearer, you’ll love Color Intense Lipstick. It’s everything that you love about lipstick AND it’s clean and safe. The colors are vibrant and last all day. This lipstick comes in multiple shades and when I tell you I love them all, I’m not kidding. These have a slightly minty hint which smells and feels fresh. You can see all the colors here! They also have some limited-edition colors and I LOVE B. Fearless.
You can find me wearing the “Beautycounter Red” during the holidays and for any dressy event. Or, on any day that I just need to feel more alive! Beautycounter Red has more orange tones, which I love and is what’s pictured below.
But if you prefer blue undertones, go for Girls’ Night, shown below.
Garden Party is my FAVORITE shade for summer. It’s the perfect pop of color!
First Date is lighter than Garden Party, but still has a bold pink color punch!
Brunch is what I wore most days when I was still working in Corporate America. It’s a flattering, neutral shade that goes with everything.
The Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick is the PERFECT everyday lipstick. It’s smooth and ultra-moisturizing, which gives a really nice polished sheen look. It applies like a balm, i.e. you don’t need a mirror to apply it. I love this for everyday because it has more color than a regular gloss and stays on much longer than gloss, but doesn’t feel like a typical lipstick. The sheer lipsticks get their moisturizing finish from plant-based ingredients such as jojoba esters, and their light scent from real vanilla — not from synthetic flavors, fragrances, or ingredients linked to a negative impact on health.
Lily, Twig and Rose are my three favorite shades. Lily (pictured below) is such a pretty, soft pink. Rose is similar but slightly darker with a deeper pink hue.
Twig is my go-to for something when I want a tiny bit of color but not really. It’s super natural-looking, but flattering.
One of my favorite lip colors is layering a Color Intense Lipstick over a Sheer Genius Lipstick. Below is a picture of Garden Party layered over Raisin. Then I blot for the perfect color that doesn’t smudge.
Lip Gloss – Beyond Gloss
One thing that I normally hate about lip gloss is how sticky it feels, but this Beyond Gloss doesn’t feel sticky at all. It’s smooth and has a tiny bit of a vanilla scent and uses vitamin E instead of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), a preservative commonly used in lip products that may have harmful health effects. All of these are safe for pregnancy, just like all their skincare products I used during pregnancy.
It’s SUPER shiny and just a little swipe goes a long way. I really like the applicator too. These are always stashed away in my purses and tote bags, as well as my car and office. My husband always finds these laying around, ha! You can see all the colors here.
These colors from left to right are Amber Shimmer, Brulee and Mulberry. And I love all of these, as well as Rosewood (see photo further down). The one lipgloss color I don’t like is Bare Shimmer since I felt like it washed me out.
Quartz Shimmer is what I’m wearing below – it’s a pretty, nearly clear color!
What You Need To Know About Beautycounter Lipsticks
As I mentioned before, all of the Beautycounter lipstick, lipsheer and lip gloss colors are designed to work on every skin tone. That makes it much easier for me to venture out and try new shades since buying lipstick online can be a little risky. But, Beautycounter also has a 60 day return policy, for a full refund, no questions asked, no matter how much you’ve used. They even cover return shipping! So, if you get a shade that just isn’t for you, send it back!
Beautycounter’s lipstick is also safer than most lipsticks you’ll find on the market. And since I’m health conscientious, safer products are important to me! They test all of their makeup for lead (seriously, some major brands have been tested and have high levels of lead in them!!) and they even audit their mica suppliers.
All of their lip colors are gluten-free, nut-free and soy-free. The Lip Sheers and Color Intense Lipstick are also vegan. And they NEVER use synthetic fragrance in any of their products.
Carnauba Wax: plant-based wax that’s known as the ‘queen of waxes,’ and promotes long-lasting hydration and shine
Jojoba Seed Oil: easily absorbs into skin for immediate moisture
Jojoba Esters: help moisturize, soothe, and soften skin
Vitamin E: a powerful antioxidant with hydrating and skin-conditioning properties
Candelilla Wax: smooths and conditions lips
Beautycounter Color Intense Lipstick Colors
Given that the Color Intense lipsticks are bold with a sharper finish, I prefer to pair it with Skin Twin Foundation since that gives my skin a polished finish that pairs nicely with the lipstick. And to remove the Color Intense lipstick, I use these makeup remover wipes! For the lipsheers and lip glosses, those work nicely with Dew Skin, which is a sheer tinted moisturizer so the overall look is more natural.
Brunch: Tawny Pink
Backstage: Beige Pink
First Date: Rosy Pink
Garden Party: Bright Pink
Little Black Dress: Neutral Berry
9 to 5: Luminous Mauve
Twilight: Bright Berry
Girls’ Night: Classic Red
