I’ve lived in Winston-Salem for over 13 years, and while it definitely took some time to fall in love with it here, I now love this city. So much so that after I moved to Charlotte, I missed Winston and eventually moved back. (That and dating my now-husband, Tommy!) When I moved back, I started an Instagram account and website dedicated this fine city. I’ve since sold that business but I still get asked for my favorite spots, best places, and recommendations for all types of business in Winston-Salem, so that’s what I’m sharing today! If you’re looking specifically for things to do in Winston-Salem, read this post. And this post has my favorite restaurants around town!
Hannah grew up in Winston-Salem so she’s included some of her recommendations too!
The Best Places in Winston-Salem Β
Nail Salons
Helen Hue Nguyen at Serenity Nails. The best way to reach her is by text message, and she’ll set up an appointment for you. Honestly, I HATE getting my nails done because I feel like I’m wasting time, but Helen makes it so nice. And I just love her. Her phone number is (336) 918-8534.
Personal Care & Skincare
Kavita at Kaya Spa – I don’t trust anyone else! She’s been threading and tinting my eyebrows for years.
Glo Skincare Studio – Whitney gives the BEST facials if you want a pampering facial.
The Vista Spa – This is a great option if you want a more clinical facial. It’s not as relaxing as Glo but I saw results immediately.
Botox – Dr. Candace Waters at WFU Baptist Health or Dr. Leslie Branch at Forsyth Plastics. I’ve gone to both!
Waxing – Ashley at Glo Skincare is amazing. She makes you feel very comfortable and it’s the least painful waxing I’ve ever had.
Hair
Jodi at Escape Salon – I’ve been going to Jodi for years. We typically do my cut and color on separate days so that I don’t have to stay at the salon ALL day. I love her! Ask to get on her cancellation list – she is booked out MONTHS in advance and not typically accepting new clients.
Laura Bray at Two Ten Salon – This is technically in Kernersville but worth the short drive, especially since she’s a little easier to get into. Laura does gorgeous hair coloring (she did my hair one week before these photos) and she also does hair extensions. I haven’t done them myself but she has them and they look AMAZING (and now I want them). You can see her work on her Instagram page.
Massage
Pattie at Glass Door Salon – Pattie gives an incredibly relaxing and effective massage, but not as deep as some other options.
Mossy Rock Massage – A good combo of relaxing and deep work. Of the three massage therapists, I like her space the best.
Ger at Therapeutic Body Care of Winston Salem – The best sports massage ever. If I’m training for a race, I try to see Ger once a month.
Breakthrough Physical Therapy – I get dry needling done here when needed. I see Cheryl Pfruender.
Burke Street Chiropractic – I literally couldn’t walk in my first trimester with some lower back pain. Dr. Melissa is AMAZING and I love how quick the appointments are. In and out in 20 minutes!!!
Doctors
Dr. Zachary Sandbulte at Novant – He’s a GREAT non-operative sports medicine doctor who really listens. His exams are very thorough, but he’s not overly aggressive with treatments and doesn’t order a million tests right out of the gate, which I appreciate!
Dr. Jenny Sandbulte at Lyndhurst – Yep, married to the guy above! She is incredibly kind and, like her husband, she really listens and cares. She goes out of her way to help when I’ve needed referrals and was very patient with ALL my questions when I was pregnant. She also has a very calming presence, which I especially appreciated when I had some things pop up in my pregnancy that required additional monitoring. (She delivered my son actually! I was so lucky she was on call!)
Shopping
Rebecca and Co – I LOVE their clothes and they have the best customer service EVER.
Southern Home and Kitchen – Great hostess gifts and fun little decor finds.
All Through The House – Another great spot for hostess or wedding gifts. You can start a wedding registry here!
Fleet Feet Winston-Salem – My favorite local running store.
Home
Jason Bragg – he’s been incredibly helpful in our house search, is extremely responsive and just a nice guy.
Home Renovation – Preston Harris with Solid Foundation Construction or Brett Sipe with QFC Builders are the two companies we’re pricing out for some projects we’ll be doing at our new home. Both have fantastic reputations and I have friends who have used both companies with very positive experiences.
Baby Related Favorites
Born with Margo – Margo was one of my doulas (both during pregnancy and postpartum). Thomas and I both ADORE her. She will be my first call if I’m ever pregnant again.
Rhonda’s Newborn Care – Another saving grace when Thomas would not sleep for months. She is incredibly calming and I trust her COMPLETELY.
Hannah’s Favorites
4th St. Brow Studio and Parlor – Holly at the brow studio tweezes her eyebrows and does her makeup for events. She did her wedding makeup too!
HIVE – Hannah’s favorite boutique to shop for gifts and home decor.
Gynecologist – Dr. Jaleema Speaks with Novant. Maybe a weird thing to include on this post, but she’s AMAZING. If you can get in with her, do!
Dermatologist – Dr. Lauren B Gandhi is the best around. Trust me, she’s seen me through it ALL.
Note: These are places that I regularly visit and where I spend my own money on their products, food and services. I was not compensated to include any business on this list.

atI like Hero House for gyros, Greek salads & souvlaki. And I require their chocolate cake once a month!

atAs far as sushi is concerned, Oriental Cafe of off Hanes Mall has excellent sushi! I have heard mixed reviews on their other dishes but I don’t think a bad word can be said about their sushi. Not only is it fresh and delicious, they come up with some fantastic ways to present the rolls! Hands down the best sushi in Winston.

atSo cool that you live in Winston! Me too! Sometimes I feel like I’m the only Winston blogger π haha! You have some great suggestions on here. I’m a vegetarian, and am sad to say I haven’t tried a lot of these restaurants! I need to get on it!

atI also like K-9 doggy bakery and 3pooches in paradise (dog walkers and dog sitters). (For those dog lovers in the Winston-Salem area!)

Perhaps there is a way you are able to remove me from that service?

atI have been following your blog off-and-on for a little over a year. I am in Winton-Salem on business today and am using your suggestions above to choose the restaurant for dinner π
Teri [a foodie stays fit]
atOh awesome! Welcome to town! Where did you end up eating? The Big Eat is going on (awesome price on a one-dish special at restaurants around town) so I hope you stumbled into one of those options too! Usually pretty fun.

atHey Teri,
Having just moved to Winston, I’m so excited to have just found your blog. My husband and I really love Foothills (for their beer, more than their food) and Small Batch (for both food and drinks). We’ll definitely be trying some of the other places you suggested that we haven’t been to yet, and I’ll be following your blog, too. Thanks!

atHey Cara,

atWe really enjoy West End Coffeehouse! The people there are really nice and they have unique flavors to try all the time.
We are also kind of in love with Tarte Sweets… Their macarons are to die for!
Daniel Baird
atHave you tried Carmines 901 Grill at 901 Reynolda Road. They bake their own bread, make their sauces and pesto. Everything is fresh and very good. My staff and I love it and it is right down the street from our design & print shop. All the entrees are $9.01.

atIf any you guys love good coffee I really urge you try SWEET AROMAZ on 6th Street between trade St and liberty St
The owners are really sweet and the coffee is amazing better than twin City hyve or krankies coffee.
I also had Nitro coffee there and nitro chai tea
Logan Torres
atI don’t think I ever been to any of these.
