Hey y’all! I’m currently in Atlanta for a work trip; it’s my first time visiting the city so if you have any recommendations, please let me know! I’m currently waiting for the sun to come up so I can go on a quick run. It’s still pitch black and it looks like the sun rises 30 minutes later here than in Winston. :/
Thank you all for the birthday wishes! The day couldn’t have been more perfect (other than that whole work thing, but at least I like my job!). I started the day with a 7 mile run, stopping half way at a fig tree to refuel. It was a gorgeous morning.
I swung by Trader Joe’s on the way home to grab some bread because I’m obsessed with toast, and I HAD to have toast with my breakfast. I really like their whole grain gluten-free bread. There were 2 other pieces of toast that went unpictured. 🙂
Tommy swung by in the morning to deliver my invitation to our dinner date that night. 🙂 He had made reservations at the Katharine Brasserie & Bar, a new restaurant in town that I hadn’t been to yet so it was fun to look forward to that all day.
I had a lunch date with a girlfriend and it was great to catch up! We went to Local, and I had their veggie burger + sweet potato fries.
In the afternoon, I took a quick coffee break to head to Twin City Hive. They have gluten-free cake every Friday and the cake on my birthday (perfect timing!) was an apple pound cake with a caramel drizzle. It was so dang good.
After work, I took Maizey on a walk and we hung out in the park for a bit since she was pretty hot.
Later that evening, Tommy and I headed to dinner at the Katharine. To be honest, I was a little skeptical going into dinner since I had heard mixed reviews, but we had a great experience. To start, we split a fig, arugula, & prosciutto salad that was seriously awesome; I wanted to lick the dressing off the plate. I ordered the salmon, which was served with a cocoa/ground coffee blend and pureed parsnips with a red wine reduction. I was super intrigued by all of that with salmon, and it was a surprisingly great combo. The salmon was cooked perfectly too.  Tommy had a steak which came with fries, and it was good too (but mine was better 😉 ). We had a pecan tart for dessert (dessert #2 for my birthday… YESSSS). I didn’t take pictures since I wanted to enjoy dinner (and the lighting wasn’t great!).
The Katharine is in the Cardinal Hotel, which is in an iconic building downtown that they just restored and is gorgeous. Fun fact – the building was the prototype for the Empire State Building. They kept original doors, hardware, so many things and it was so pretty just walking around. I want to have a staycation there! They also have a bowling alley, basketball court, indoor slide, and a game room in the basement that restaurant visitors can use, so we obviously had to do that. Turns out I’m better at basketball in 4.5″ heels than I am at bowling.
It was a perfect day. 🙂

atWe did a staycation at the Cardinal for my birthday this summer and it was great! I highly recommend snagging a corner spa room – awesome downtown views and the soaking tub was *amazing*. We did dinner and drinks at the Katherine too followed by some bowling and basketball 🙂 Love what has been opening lately in WS!
