Dealing with Knee Pain & Running

This morning at 6 AM when I headed to the gym, it was 55 degrees. And now, it’s snowing like crazy and freezing. This has been the craziest winter! I think Maizey and I actually have opposite feelings about the snow than what our expressions say; she’s loving it and I’m hating it. I’m so ready for spring!!

She is so cute.

She ran around for like 5 minutes and then decided she was too cold and is now curled up on the couch.

At the gym this morning, I ran 1.5 miles for a warm-up (about an 8:20 pace) and then did some leg extensions to strengthen my quads and some hamstring curls and deadlifts. I’m wondering if my knees have been bothering me because the surrounding and supporting muscles are weak so I’m trying to strengthen my legs with some concentrated work. I finished with a 1.5 mile cool down. The weight training felt good and the running didn’t hurt, so that’s good!

I came home from the gym and made a banana, pineapple, spinach and flaxseed smoothie. I put a whole bag of spinach in the smoothie (it was about to expire!) and 2 heaping tablespoons of flaxseed. Lots of nutrients this morning! I had a snack a few hours after being at work – a pumpkin cherry oat muffin I made over the weekend. Deeelicious. Recipe soon!

While sipping my smoothie, I logged my workout. I recently signed up for Daily Mile (I know…am I the very last one??) and am loving the software. It’s much better than my Excel tracking. I mean, I love Excel and all, but Daily Mile makes the charting and tracking so easy. Here’s my profile if you want more details on my daily workouts since I don’t always post them here.

I’m planning on staying in tonight, bundled up away from the cold. I’ve got chili cooking in the crockpot, a pup snuggling me, and episodes of House of Cards waiting. And….I’ll probably be noshing on some more of these.

I posted the Java ones on Instagram after my lunch dessert, but I’m also obsessed with the fudge and strawberry flavors. They are soooo creamy! These were sent to me from So Delicious (on dry ice!), but I would absolutely spend my own money on these and plan to buy more as soon as I find them locally. Check out how much fiber is in these. ha!

Have a great night!

You can freeze spinach [and other greens] for smoothies if they’re about to go bad! I do it allll of the time. Pile them into a large freezer bag and squeeze out all the air. Instant green smoothie!
