Dime Beauty Review – my top picks & how the brand is different

My honest review of DIME Beauty products. Some I love, others not so much! Use code TeriLyn20 for 20% off your purchase!

I tried Dime Beauty for the first time a few months ago. I kept seeing influencers talk about it Instagram. And after a few girls I really trust recommended it, I decided to order a few products. I love trying new beauty and skincare products, so I figured why not give Dime Beauty a try and see if it really lives up to the hype.

Before trying it myself, I did a little research and found that Dime Beauty makes all clean skincare and beauty products (which I LOVE!). I’m already using almost 99% clean beauty and skincare (there are a few things I love enough to use even though they aren’t “clean” which make up the other 1%), so learning that Dime was clean made me even more interested (their products are a better option for the planet too).

In this blog post I’m going to give Dime Beauty a full (and, as always, honest!) review. In short, there are a few products I truly LOVE and a few I don’t. Let’s get into the details!

Dime Beauty Review

Dime Beauty Review

First, a little overview: Dime Beauty was founded by Baylee Relf (a licensed master esthetician) and her husband Ryan, in 2018, so it’s a fairly new company. They felt that there was a gap in the market for a clean beauty brand that helped women of all ages, so they started Dime.

Is Dime A Clean Beauty Brand?

One of the things I appreciate MOST about Dime Beauty is their attention to detail on their ingredients list online. One of my FAVORITE things about Dime Beauty is that they include the EWG score for every single ingredient in their products which is incredibly helpful as a consumer who cares about safer beauty products. I’m also impressed by the pricing! Everything is affordable for high quality ingredients.

The first product I tried was the Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I was honestly SHOCKED by how much I like this, considering I already have a another hyaluronic acid serum I use and love. Since then, I’ve tried a few other products so I shared my thoughts on those below!

How long does it take for DIME Beauty to work?

I used most of these products for 4-5 weeks before reviewing them. Some have immediate results (hydration, for example), while others, like the lash and brow serums, took a few months. I’ve been using those serums for a few months and have seen AMAZING results. I noticed a difference in about 6-8 weeks.

Best Dime Beauty Products

Dime Beauty Hyaluronic Acid Serum

The Hyaluronic Acid Serum is my FAVORITE product from Dime so far. I have very dry skin and this has helped a LOT. Hyaluronic Acid helps improve hydration in skin, by raising the the levels of HA in our skin that decreases over time. Hyaluronic Acid is also a hydrophilic humectant, which means it draws water from the air to helps replenish hydration over time too. If I had to pick between the Dime Beauty HA serum and the Beautycounter Countermatch serum, I would probably go for the Countermatch one simply because I love the smell of that, but the Dime Beauty one works just as well and is cheaper.

Dime Beauty Thirsty Face™ Mist

The Thirsty Face Mist is my second favorite Dime Beauty product. I LOVE how hydrated my skin feels after this. It’s much more effective than some facial mists are where I feel like I’m just spritzing water onto my skin. I use it just after applying the hyaluronic acid serum, followed by my moisturizer, since the mist + HA helps keep even more moisture. I also use in the afternoon on most days; you can often find a facial mist on my desk, and most recently it’s been this one.  And get this: it contains BLUE LIGHT BLOCKING INGREDIENTS. That means it’s protecting my skin from all of the blue light I look at all day while working. Insane and brilliant! That is skin care.

Dime Beauty Eyelash Boost Serum

The Eyelash Boost Serum was the product I was most excited to try because I heard so many things about it! It contains a blend of amino acids and peptides which help build the length, density and strength of hair. I just got it so I haven’t seen results yet (the brand says it typically takes 2 months of consistent use). But I’ll update this once I use it for a while. I have hesitated to use other brands of eyelash serums (like Rodan + Fields, Latisse or Obagi) since I’ve heard (and seen on my friends) that it can leave a dark line on your lash line. I actually contacted Dime Beauty to ask about this and they said their products doesn’t cause that effect.

Dime Beauty Volume Mascara

I have STRONG feelings about mascara. I’ve tried countless brands over the years and I’ve never found something that I’m 100% obsessed with. My favorite combo right now is the Tarte Opening Act eyelash primer and the Thrive Cosmetics mascara. I didn’t love the Dime Beauty mascara as much as I hoped to, but it was fine. It does go on smooth without clumping or flaking, but I didn’t feel like it gave my lashes quite enough volume and it smudged on me. (To be fair, all oil-soluble mascara smudges on me, which is why I have to use a water-soluble, tubing mascara like Thrive or Hourglass.) If you like a more natural looking lash, you’d probably like the Dime mascara! (If you don’t typically have issues with mascara smudging, I highly recommend Beautycounter’s Think Big Mascara. It looks incredible once applied.)

Dime Beauty Eyebrow Enhancing Gel

I was very interested in this eyebrow gel since I have a few little bald spots in my eyebrows and I was hopeful this would help those grow back. It contains the same effective peptides used in the Eyelash Boost Serum, which helps improve the appearance of longer, stronger, and thicker hair. Sure enough, the bald spots has improved since using this for 2 months! I still use a pencil to fill them in entirely but it’s improved a LOT. I’m not sure if it’s the gel or a new collagen I’m trying, but either way, I’m super happy.

However, I don’t use this during the day with my makeup. I use it at night since I prefer Beautycounter’s Brow Gel during the day to add a little color and the Dime brow gel is clear. I also find the Dime formula VERY wet and it sometimes leaves my brows looking too separated and defined. So, problem solved, I just add it to my brows after my evening skincare routine as more of a treatment than a beauty product.

Dime Beauty Blue Facial Oil

If you struggle with breakout-prone skin, you should give the Blue Facial Oil a try! This oil is a spot treatment that also provides hydration (this is KEY since so many people struggle with breakouts due to OVER-drying their zits). It contains blue tansy oil, black cumin seed oil, and rosehip oil which are great for minimizing blemishes and inflammation. These oils also have anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties that prevent redness and scarring, and they also help repair your skin barrier. I haven’t tried it since breakouts aren’t an issue for me anymore, but it has great reviews.

Dime Beauty Luminosity Eye Serum

The hyaluronic acid serum was my favorite product but once I tried this serum, it took the spot as favorite. I was SHOCKED the first time I used it. It has a cooling effect that feels like it’s literally depuffing upon application and is packed with eye brightening and tightening ingredients like Goji Berry, Grape Skin Extract, Cucumber Extract, and Peptides. It’s great for under eye bags and dark circles. I’ve been using it over my other two eye creams, which are a lot more expensive! For $38 + 20% off with my code TERILYN20, you can’t go wrong!  (This and this)

Luminosity Eye Serum

Hyper Glow™ Serum

The Hyper Glow Serm is Dime Beauty’s Vitamin C serum. I’m hooked on this All Bright C serum, so I didn’t try this. The Vitamin C they use (15% L-Ascorbic Acid) is great, though! It’s MUCH more affordable than my vitamin C, so that’s also something to keep in mind. It also has t also has Vitamin E in it (super helpful for preventing environmental damage to your skin) and resveratrol. If you struggle with hyperpigmentation, this would be a great product to try.

Dime Beauty Wonderscreen™ SPF 30

I haven’t tried The Wonderscreen but it’s on my list! It contains 19% zinc (that’s a LOT compared to other mineral sunscreens) and it’s supposed to be non-greasy, non-whitening, and lightweight. It contains beetroot, which is an extract that’s loaded with vitamins and minerals that are scientifically proven to reduce the appearance of blemishes, fine lines, and wrinkles. We shall see! I’ll report back. I already have a face sunscreen I like but I’m curious to try this one with beetroot!

Dime Beauty Gentle Jelly Cleanser

I’m pretty committed to my oil cleanser but this Jelly Cleanser is a great option if you’re looking for a face wash that gets all the dirt and makeup off without stripping your face. It uses a blend of detoxifying and skin-soothing ingredients. The combo of two natural surfactants provides deep cleansing paired with a nice soothing feeling. Like I said, I have a cleanser I love so I haven’t tried this. If you need a moisturizer to use after this cleanser, try their Restorative Night Cream!

TBT Cream

Dime Beauty’s TBT Cream is a clean retinol alternative that gives you all the benefits of a retinol cream minus the harshness (helps remove the dead skin cells without irritating your skin!). This is important, especially for pregnant and breastfeeding moms. The ingredient they use for the anti-aging properties is bakuchiol, the same as what Beautycounter uses in their anti-aging line.  I’ve used this a few times and really like it! I apply it at night and when I wake up, my skin is absolutely GLOWING.

Super Firm Serum

The Super Firm Serum is supposed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin (heyo!). It’s a new addition to their anti-aging line and it’s perfect for eyes, face, and neck. It contains leucojum aestivum bulb extract which assists in limiting the contraction of muscle cells or tissues (like botox, but safer). This helps the skin keep up with its daily repairing process to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I apply it only to my smile lines and I was hoping to see a difference, but after using it for a month, nothing yet.

Super Firm Serum

Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a safe, high performing and affordable skincare line, Dime Beauty is a GREAT option. I really, really like a lot of their products. Some products I like better than other brands I’ve used in the past and some of their products I like just as much (or nearly as much!) . However, a lot of the skin care products in my skincare routine are very expensive so I think DIME is a GREAT alternative at a more affordable price point. While they don’t feel as “high end” as some of my current products (simply in the way they apply and absorb), they are definitely better than drugstore products. I also love their commitment to safety and transparency around ingredients– they are vegan and cruelty-free. I plan to repurchase a few items and I’ll update this post as I try more products (like the Wonder Screen and lash serum!).

And I also LOVE their perfume – I’ve been on the hunt for YEARS for a perfume that I liked and didn’t make my throat feel like it is closing. I’m allergic to most perfumes, even other clean brands and Dime passed the test! It smells amazing and I don’t react. Their perfume deserves its own review so more details coming on that soon, but my favorite is Lovely Sweet Dreams or 7 Summers.

If you’ve tried Dime Beauty, I’d love to hear what products you like!
