Happy Friday! This has been a pretty low key week which I’m really grateful for since life pretty much feels pretty crazy all the time. Work has been manageable, I got up to work out every morning (I think??) rather than taking up my evenings, and I had a really fun and tasty dinner (at Nolen Kitchen) with a friend from work.
I’ve been making a conscious effort to take more downtime, and after work–rather than rushing to the gym or starting on to-do’s–I’ve had a snack and laid on my bed and read (Girl on the Train) for 20 minutes before starting dinner. It’s been really, really nice to unwind that way. I focus a lot on physical health and sometimes neglect my mental health by staying too busy. Granted, I’m busy with good things, but downtime is definitely important!
Anyway. Here’s what I’m loving this week! (Oh, quick side note, speaking of favorites – there are so many good suggestions in the comments section of yesterday’s post about my Trader Joe’s favorites. Go check it out! I have a ton of new things I want to try from there now! Thanks for sharing what you love!)
Favorite Purchase: Fabletics Stars & Strips Salar Shorts
I love the 4th of July and every year I’m sad I don’t have anything patriotic to wear. I’m gonna be prepared this year, at least for my workout! (This reminds me of when I was a teenager and I’d go to Old Navy every summer for a flag t-shirt. Anyone else do that??) I ordered them earlier this week – can’t wait for them to get here!
Favorite Local Find: Letter-pressed cards by Kristen Hendersen Calligraphy
These cards are made by an artist in Charlotte, and I’ve bought four in the past months since discovering them at Green with Envy (my go-to shop for gifts). You can buy them from the Ruby Slippers Creative Etsy shop too, for you non-local folks! They’re simple, short & sweet, and some are downright hilarious.
Favorite Freebie: Body Glide & Foot Glide
I got a horrific blister from my new-ish Banana Republic Ashley bow ballet flats last week. DO NOT BUY THEM. Ugh, the worst. I’ve always found them super uncomfortable, blister aside, and then after wearing them on a 10 minute walk, they absolutely tore a hole in my heel. The folks from Body Glide (seriously a runner’s best friend to prevent chafing!) sent me some freebies, including their new foot glide. I used it on some hot spots on my heel and toes I felt with some new wedges, and I’m pretty sure it prevented another blister disaster. I wonder if this could have saved me from the BR flats?
I keep wearing this outfit over and over. The Banana Republic top is sold out, and the J.Crew 3” chino shorts are about 4 or 5 years old but they always have them in a billion colors. The wedges are by Splendid and a few years old; I tried to find them for you, but they no longer sell them. Here are some similar styles though! (Am I the last one to discover Lyst?! That’s a cool tool to show similar styles of stuff that’s sold out.) I feel so dang tall in those shoes. I can even reach stuff on the top shelf!! Is this how the rest of the non-5’1” world lives?
A few of you have commented and emailed asking for more fashion posts, so I’ll do my best to incorporate outfits into posts more often! I really appreciate your feedback and telling me what you like seeing on the blog! Y’all are the best. But seriously – I have the best readers. I love your feedback, and I’ve been so grateful for the outpouring of support and love from you guys, telling me that you’re so happy for me that I’m happy. It’s so thoughtful and kind. THANK YOU!! Wish I could give each of you a big hug.
Hope you have a great weekend!
