Girls’ Weekend in DC

Hiiiii! Sheesh, I keep disappearing without meaning to! Things have been so busy lately but I had a great getaway to DC for a girls’ weekend DC. The timing couldn’t have been better – I’ve been a bit stressed out lately and it was a good opportunity to relax and have some quality friend time. (I didn’t even open my laptop once!!)

This was our 2nd annual Cherry Blossom 10 Miler Girls’ Weekend and it was perfect. Great race, great girl time, no agenda (other than the race and brunch afterwards! 🙂 ) and absolutely beautiful weather.

Crystal and I drove up to DC together early Saturday morning.

After arriving and unloading our stuff, we enjoyed lunch on Allison and Gabi’s rooftop. The weather was beautiful and so was the view! I was too lazy to get up from the table to take a really great picture but from where I was sitting I could see the Washington Monument and the National Cathedral.

And of course, we greeted Annie…and asked her about Maizey. Silly silly pup.  It was so funny when I arrived because it took Annie a minute to realize who I was and then we said Maizey’s name and she was loving all over me. That girl loves her some Maizey. I LOVE that she still knows Maizey’s name. hehe. Poor besties living so far away from each other; I know how they feel. 🙂

After Leslie and Jill rolled into town, we all headed over to the race expo.

Bill Rodgers was there signing autographs! I didn’t want to stand in line so I took a creeper photo instead.

After the expo, we headed back to the apartment for serious girl weekend activities: nail painting and playing with hair. 🙂 Leslie is a pro at recreating styles found on Pinterest and Crystal is a pro at nail painting.

After we got gussied up to go nowhere, we made dinner (three types of tacos!) and got ready for the Michigan game. Gabi doled out Michigan gear for all of us to wear, including Annie. 🙂 She looooved it.

After a close game, we could all rest peacefully knowing Michigan won the game. (We won’t talk about subsequent events. <3 you Gabi.)

Race recap soon – hopefully tomorrow! It was one of my favorite races ever so I’m excited to tell you about it! Definitely add Cherry Blossom to your must-run races.

What would your perfect girls’ weekend involve?

What words does your dog know? Maizey knows treat, Annie, sit, wait, high-five, and do you wanna (like “do you wanna…go for a walk? … go for a car ride?… a treat?” so now she just gets excited when she hears “do you wanna.”). And probably others that I can’t remember right now. 🙂

Layla knows: cookie, treat, breakfast, walk, park, potty, and bra (her harness). Also- I was around the house singing ‘Roxanne’ the other day, the dog was going crazy. I couldn’t tell why until I realized the ‘rawwwwwx’ part of Roxanne sounded to Layla like the word ‘walk’. Lesson learned…and then I had to take her for a walk.

Oh my gosh, it looks like you had such a fabulous weekend!
Now THAT is what I call a race expo! Sometimes the expos are my favorite part of the race haha!

Ah, I have run in this race for the past 3 years and was so so sad to miss it this year! Glad you had an amazing time! It’s honestly one of my favorite races. 🙂

I’ve read about the Cherry Blossom 10 miler before. Would be a fun race trip to make! My dog knows “treat” my heart. As soon as she hears the word her ears pop up and she cocks her head as far over to one side as she can. If she has to wait any longer for the actual treat she’ll start to bark at me then jump and spin around. Love my silly pup though! 🙂

Isn’t it funny how dogs learn words? My dog knows treat, walk, potty, outside, toy, breakfast & dinner. She hears the word “no” all the time but pretends she doesn’t know what it means. 😉 Oh yeah, & she definitely knows my daughter’s name!

Sounds like you had a perfect de-stress weekend!
I am always amazed at how many words dogs can learn. So far, Margot knows: inside, outside, go potty, bedtime, hungry, where’s Togo? (our cat), froggie, cow, and frisbee (those last three all refer to toys).

PS I met a very sweet female Boxer this morning on my run–made me think of Maizey!
