Little Things That Perk Me Up

Happy Wednesday! I started my morning with a 4.5 mile run followed by a 1 mile run with Maizey. It was really humid and my legs just didn’t feel fluid. I haven’t done yoga in weeks and since I never stretch otherwise, I think I’m starting to feel the effects of that. I really need to be better about stretching! I say this all the time and never do anything about it…so I guess I really just need to get back to yoga.

I was exhausted all day. Despite two cups of coffee, I was still dragging. Coffee often makes me more tired instead of waking me up. It’s a fine balance between just enough or too much. I think I may need to do a little coffee break to get my body reset and off the caffeine addiction.

I usually come home for lunch but was just too tired to make anything, so I called in some Thai takeout and dined on panang curry with chicken. I also snagged some tulips when I picked up my food since the best Thai in Winston-Salem is inside a grocery store. 🙂 Today was all about little things to perk me up and these $4 tulips were a worthy purchase.

I was still so exhausted when I came home from work that I took a little power nap. I had some things I needed to get done but couldn’t even function. I set the timer for 20 minutes and dozed right off, which never happens for me. I didn’t want to sleep too long and then be up all night.

And yes, I sleep with an eye mask. I got one from the dollar store a while ago when the motion detector light installed on my house kept waking me up in the middle of the night when all the bunnies would run around! And now I can’t sleep without it.

When I woke up, I found this on my deck. My neighbor, Blair, who has the greenest thumb ever has an enormous garden growing in a small raised garden bed. And I’m the happy recipient of her skills.

I feel a million times better after my nap but still hope to get in bed nice and early. I’m off to figure out what to make with this squash! I’ll probably just sauté it with some onions and coconut oil.

What little things perk you up? I love having fresh flowers around the house. I love taking Maizey for walks. And I love turning my phone off and relaxing electronic free with a book or magazine or just sitting and starting at my yard.

How awesome that you’re concentrating on the positives. It’s always great to remember things that perk you up in case you’re having a bad day and you need a pick-me-up. 🙂

I’ve started picking up flowers every so often to brighten up our kitchen/dining/den area. It’s a really open space, so one vase will do! I started doing it when we held a small group study here in the spring, and decided that I’d keep it up.

(I took a nap today – too! Mine went a little longer than 20 minutes (oops!), but most times that is really all it takes to feel SO much better!)
