This really needs no intro. Coffee. Chocolate. Cherries. Done.
But I’ll give it an intro anyway. I love to drink smoothies that allow me to get the protein I need, but taste different. Granted, I could drink a protein shake if I was really in need of a quick fix, but I love finding healthy ways to incorporate protein into smoothies that actually taste good… like what?
This smoothie is all things yummy. Cherries, chocolate, and coffee. You could even skip your morning cup of Joe and just make this! (Like I would ever skip my morning cup, ha!)
It’s soooo creamy. The frozen banana is key to getting the creamy texture. I also think a protein powder that contains xanthum gum is key to getting the right texture. Note: the photos have coffee beans sitting on top…obviously you wouldn’t drink those. They are there for viewing pleasure ;).
Here’s the recipe!

Mocha Cherry Coffee Milkshake

- Yield: 1 smoothie 1x
- Category: smoothie
- Method: blender
- Cuisine: smoothie
Description
Cherries, coffee, chocolate. The best tasting, healthy smoothie on the market.
Ingredients
Mocha Cherry Coconut Milkshake
- 1 cup frozen cherries (I get them at Trader Joe’s)
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1–2 cups spinach
- 1 cup chocolate protein powder (I used SunWarrior)
- 1 heaping teaspoon ground coffee*
- 1 to 1.5 cups cups coconut milk (enough to get the consistency you like)
Instructions
Blend until smooth
Notes
*A note on the coffee: I used regular ground coffee and I had to run the blender (a Vitamix) for a while to get rid of the gritty texture. I recommend using instant coffee if you have it; I typically buy Starbucks Via coffee (which really isn’t bad to drink in a pinch!). I tried using brewed coffee and the coffee taste wasn’t strong enough for my tastes.

This is great for breakfast, after a workout or when your sweet tooth hits. I also like dumping it in a bowl, topping with cacao nibs for a little crunch, and eating it with a spoon. You can’t go wrong really.
ENJOY!
