My Must-Have Running & CrossFit Gear

Hi guys! I get a lot of one-off questions about what shoes I wear for CrossFit, running, my favorite running shorts, favorite running bra, Garmin, etc. So I finally pulled together a gear page, which you’ll see linked at the top of the blog. I’ll regularly update it as I think of and discover more things that I can’t live without, but please let me know if you have questions about any other items. (Ooh, I just remembered I need to put up my winter tights…I can’t believe it’s almost time to bust those out!) I also included a few kitchen items that are worth every penny!

And, I would love to hear in the comments on this page or on the gear page about what workout and kitchen items you can’t live without!

Do you wear the same shoes for running and crossfit? I know a lot of people wear different shoes but I can’t decide if it’s worth it.

I don’t wear the same shoes for running and Crossfit. I found that my feet and ankles hurt when I lifted heavy (particularly squats, deadlifts and thrusters) in my running shoes. They also made me feel unbalanced and a bit wobbly because of the thicker sole. I like to “feel” the ground. They are still comfortable to run in for Crossfit workouts (i.e. shorter distances) but they have a flat, thin sole that makes me feel more stable for lifts. I wouldn’t run any real distance in them — not cushioned enough! But I was hesitant to go to a straight Nano given all the jumping in CrossFit (e.g. box jumps) – so I think the Nano Sprints are a good balance. On Crossfit days where there is a LOT of running, I may wear my running shoes instead of my Nano Sprints, but it just depends on what else is in the workout. Someday I think I may invest in lifters but I haven’t yet.

      Hope this helps!

I’m about to order the Garmin 620, and I’m so excited! Our health insurance has a rewards program where you earn points for working out, races, getting enough sleep, getting your flu shot, etc., and I’ve been working to earn a new Garmin for about a year. It’s essentially free since I was going to run the races and do the workouts anyway! I have a Garmin 405 now, and it’s been bugging me for a while because it will change settings, stop itself, randomly delete the history, and other crazy things if it gets too sweaty, and I sweat a lot haha Especially since I’m in Texas. So, I’m really excited about a new FREE watch that will hopefully work better!
