My Skincare Routine

For years I’ve been publishing reviews of my favorite skincare products, but I didn’t have a permanent place to update with my skincare routine. I’m a huge fan of trying new products, and while I have some very trusty favorites, I’ve recently added a couple newbies to my arsenal. While this seems like a lot of steps, it takes less than 5 minutes and I’ve seen a big difference in my skin’s appearance and texture since I started doing a full skincare routine with all the basics steps (cleanse, tone, treat, hydrate, protect) and doing it consistently. And I NEVER EVER sleep with makeup on!

My Skincare Routine

My morning skincare routine

1. Cleanse

I wash my face with Countermatch Foaming Cleanser in the shower and use the LumiSpa to get a deep cleanse. I also feel like it helps depuff a bit, but I haven’t notice it helping with fine lines like it promises. The Countermatch Foaming Cleanser is very gentle and not drying like many foaming cleansers.

2. Tone

After I get out of the shower, I spritz the Primally Pure Plumping Mist all over my face. I love how this tingles and makes me feel alive in the morning. It smells great too. (Use code TERI to save 10%.)

3. Serum

Next, I use the Beautycounter Vitamin C Serum. This brightens dark spots and gives a youthful glow. It also protects against environmental stressors and potential sun damage you’re exposed to during the day. (Read my full review here.)

4. Hydrate

I use the Beautycounter Countertime Soft Cream for my daytime moisturizer. It has a soft, lightweight texture but is very hydrating without being greasy so my makeup still applies well. A little goes a long way, and it also contains bakuchiol which gives similar results as retinol but it’s safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

5. Eye cream

I use the Beautycounter Countertime Eye Cream every morning. I’ve struggled for years to find an eye cream that didn’t make my sensitive eyes red but has enough active ingredients to make a difference in fine lines and dark circles. This one is perfect. My eyes instantly look more awake and it’s really improved my dark circles and fine lines. I love love love it and I’ve tried a LOT of eye creams over the years.

6. Protect with SPF

Lastly I use the Beautycounter Countersun Daily Sheer SPF as my daily SPF. (Review here.) I wish I could take my younger self by the shoulders, shake her and say “WEAR SPF!”.  I love Beautycounter’s because it goes on SO smooth, absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave my skin greasy. It layers really well under makeup too. While I wish my face lotion had SPF to remove a step, so far I haven’t found a face lotion with SPF that I like as much as the Soft Cream.

My evening skincare routine

Best case scenario, I do this routine about 30-60 minutes before heading to bed. (You can see my sleep must-haves here). This gives my skin enough time to absorb everything before I put on my sleeping eye mask and put my face on my pillow (stomach sleeper here!). Most nights I change into PJs about an hour before I go to bed and do my skincare routine. Then, Tommy and I watch a show together before I go to bed. (We’re currently hooked on 1883 and the Tinder Swindler!)

1. Cleanse

I wash my face with Beautycounter Countertime Cleansing Oil nightly and it takes my makeup right off. And I love how soothing and gentle it is. I apply it to dry skin, massage it into my skin, and then add tepid water to my hands and massage your skin again. This helps the oil become milk and activated. Then I wet this makeup remover cloth and gently wipe it off.

2. Double Cleanse

I’ve recently started doing a double cleanse in the evening with the Countermatch Foaming Cleanser since I’ve been wearing more makeup lately, with primer, foundation and setting powder. My face didn’t feel dirty with just the oil cleanse, but I do like just how clean it feels since I added this step. The cleansing oil helps remove makeup and this cleanser helps remove any remaining trace dirt and makeup and really clean my pores.

I apply this cleanser to damp skin, add a little more water to help it foam and then just rinse off. I have VERY dry skin but my skin hasn’t felt overly dry or stripped with these two cleansers, which I’m happy about.

3. Tone

After I wash my face, I use the Beautycounter Countertime Essence, which is similar to a toner but milkier and more hydrating. I apply a nickel size amount to my palm and then pat it into my skin. I let it sit for about 30 seconds and then apply my serum.

4. Serum

I am LOVING this SkinMedica Serum (15% off for first time buyers with code BG15OFF). It’s a clinical grade anti-aging serum that targets fine lines, deep wrinkles and sagging skin.d I have noticed my skin feels more taut and smoother after using this for just a few weeks. It’s very pricey, so I only use it every other night, alternating with the Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel (review here). On the nights I use the peel, I let it dry completely, a full 3-5 minutes, before I apply my moisturizer.

5. Hydrate

I use either the Beautycounter Countertime Supreme Cream OR the Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream for extra hydration. I love both of these, but lately I’ve been using Augustinus Bader most nights since it seems more hydrating even though it’s not as thick. However, I much prefer the texture of the Supreme Cream so once it warms up and we aren’t running our heat as often, I’ll likely switch back to the Supreme Cream. But if you prefer a lighter weight moisturizer, go for Augustinus Bader.

6. Eye Cream

Last, I use the Beautycounter Countertime Eye Cream to finish off my routine.

Weekly Skin Treatments

  • iS Clinical Peel Pads Duo – I use these once or twice a week. I’d like to use them more often since I am seriously OBSESSED more but they’re very pricey. I love how they tingle and I love how my skin looks and feel the next morning. While the Countertime line gets a LOT of credit for improving my skin for years, these peel pads and the SkinMedica Serum have been great additions as I’ve gotten closer to 40 and need some stronger products.
