Every year at this time of year I go through the same closet pain: I don’t have a great fall coat. I have stuff that is too casual or not warm-enough or too warm, but nothing that’s good for the days and nights when it’s not quite time for a down coat but too cold for a jacket. Well dangit, I’m a freaking adult and it’s time to buy a coat or two. Here’s what I’m eyeing from the Nordstrom Coats and Jackets sale section; their fall clearance sale ends on Sunday night so I gotta act fast!
Wrap Coats
I think wrap coats are so lovely. They’re feminine, warm, dressy, and accentuate your waist. However, there’s a fine line between a lovely wrap coat and looking like you wore a bathrobe to dinner. These are some that are definitely lovely.
Leather Jackets
Okay, I’m not actually eyeing a leather jacket since I already have one I love, but I pulled these ones for you since I think a leather jacket is 100% worth the investment. I like a collarless style the best since I think they’re sleeker and are easier to dress up. Leather jackets work great with leggings, skinny jeans, over dresses, everything. And if you get a classic style in a beautiful shape, you’ll have it for life. I bought mine at the Nordstrom Fall Clearance sale a few years ago and I’m always glad I have it.
Down Coats
A down coat is a must-have for cold weather and I was honestly surprised at how cold it gets in North Carolina having grown up in Utah. I have packable down since I always take it when I go to Utah. Packable down is great because it’s well, packable, but I would like one that’s a bit sturdier. I always go for thin stitching and/or slightly angled stitching since I think it’s more flattering and helps avoid the coat from looking too bulky. A belted or waist-cinching down coat is always flattering too.
A go-to, go-with-everything jacket
Okay, this is the category I really need to play in. I need a jacket that will be my workhorse jacket until it’s cold enough to bust out my down coat.
Winter is coming. Stay warm! 😉
P.S. I shared some of my other sale picks here (jeans, tops, purses, accessories!).
P.P.S. Don’t forget to use eBates if you buy anything so you get cash back! I just got a $120 payment from eBates – woot!

atI’ve had the hardest time finding a lightweight coat that looks nice. I have a great wool winter coat, and a nice down coat for the really cold days, but for the cool-but-not-cold days I only have a Patagonia jacket. Which I do love, but hardly the right jacket to wear with nice work clothes .
