I’m so punny. Wanna know why? I made the Goodness Soup [pg. 208] out of Clean Food tonight. You’re laughing at my title now, right? OK, not funny and a total obvious pun, but I give ya what I can. 😉
People, this was delicious. I love soup and I especially love this soup. I’ve never had barley before and it added the perfect bite to the soup. The recipe says to simmer the soup for at least 3 hours, but since I started it after work, it simmered for only 1.5 hours before I dished it up. [I swear I follow recipes sometimes.] It’s still on the stove, cooking on low and it keeps getting thicker and thicker. I’m so excited to eat this again tomorrow, along with a side of pie, perhaps.
Now, to explain the dessert fail which led to my lactose lapse: I’d seen on a few blogs lately the now-trendy black bean brownie. So, I thought I’d attempt it and serve it to the unsuspecting males at our weekly LOST/treat night party. I used a recipe that had good reviews and was recommended by bloggy friends. But the batter was bleeeh, even with the extra sugar added. I baked it for 30 minutes. Plus 5 more. Plus 5 more. Plus 5 more. You get the idea. It would not set up. Finally, I pulled the pan out of the oven, the guys discovered what was so secret about these magic brownies, and swore to take treat night into their own hands from now on.
And then we tasted them, ya know, just to see. Seriously nasty. Like barely palatable. So, to salvage treat night we headed off to get shakes. 🙂 I let the cookies cool overnight, hoping they’d set up and taste a little better. They were slightly better today, but still too sticky and just a gross flavor.
What on earth did I do wrong that so many people loved the recipe I used and my chocolate loving self couldn’t even swallow the results??
Well, I’m off to watch the Olympics. One of my childhood friends is in the finals for freestyle aerials. So crazy and so cool!
Oh, and Maizey says hi. 🙂
