Race 13.1 Winston-Salem

Can you believe it’s the middle of August? Me either. I’m loving summer, but I always look forward to fall. The cooler temperatures, the changing colors, sweaters, boots, all the good things. 🙂 Cooler temperatures in the fall also comes with great running conditions and lots of great races. The race I’m most looking forward to this fall is Race 13.1 Winston-Salem.

This is the same race series as the last half marathon I did, Race 13.1 Greensboro, in May. I’m excited for the Winston-Salem version because (1) I love racing close to home, (2) I love seeing more long-distance races coming to WS, and (3) the first Race 13.1 event  I did was flawlessly executed, which is rare for a new race series. (You can read my recap of Race 13.1 Greensboro if you missed it when I originally posted. They also have upcoming races in Fayetteville and Raleigh.)

Race 13.1 Winston-Salem is on Sunday, October 19 and starts near the Wake Forest campus at Reynolda Village and winds through Buena Vista towards Runnymede. It looks like a similar course to the Mistletoe Half Marathon, for those of you who are familiar with that, but starts and finishes at Reynolda Village rather than looping out there and back.

If you don’t want to do a half marathon, there is also a 10K and 5K. If you’re local, I hope to see you out there! If you’re not in Winston-Salem but relatively close, you should come run the race! Winston-Salem is great in the fall and I’m betting the course is going to be beautiful with the changing colors on all the trees that line the course. Runnymede road and park is seriously sooooo pretty in the fall! I’m happy to answer any questions if you want to visit for a weekend. 🙂

I’d love it if I could PR again, but I ran so strong at the Race 13.1 Greensboro that it’ll take some serious effort to beat my time! (I ran the half in 1:34.) Either way, I’ll get a shiny medal. I really hope the 13.1 is sparkly because, obviously, sparkly is best. 🙂

I’ll probably start increasing my mileage in the next week or two, and continue my interval training but with longer intervals rather than the short/fast ones I’ve been doing lately. I haven’t signed up for any other races this fall yet…I need to pick a couple! I’m still toying with the idea of a marathon, but I have to get my act together soon if I’m gonna do it. I increased my mileage a few months ago and was doing 18-20 milers, but I wasn’t enjoying it. I have more thoughts on marathon training and racing but I’ll save that for another day!

Anyone else signed up for Race 13.1 Winston-Salem? (Psssst! Registration prices increase at the end of the month, so sign up soon if you’re gonna run!)

What fall races are you looking forward to?

Note: I did get a free entry from the lovely Race 13.1 folks, but only because they reached out before I had registered. I was planning to run it anyway. 🙂

I just moved to Winston and plan to do the 10k! I wanted to do the half, but I don’t think I can be ready for a half by October, so I’m planning to do the Mistletoe Half in December instead. I was worried there wouldn’t be any half marathon races in Winston! Love all your Winston tips btw 🙂

Welcome to Winston! I’ll try to post tips more often about local happenings! 🙂 I post some of that on my facebook page too!

That’s a great plan–10K in October and Mistletoe in December! Hope your training goes well!

I ADORE the race 13.1 Midtown Raleigh 10k!

I have run it 3 times now and will probably do so again 9/20!
The smaller size is perfect and it is impeccably run!

I’m beginning to consider a half – I was thinking springtime for my 40th birthday. If that doesn’t work out, maybe Race 13.1 will be here again next fall!

I’m signed up for the 5k! I think that’s all I will be able to handle at 30 some weeks preggar… in fact, I won’t be surprised if you finish your half before I finish the 5k! But hopefully not, so I cheer you across the finish line this time! Love fall running in WS.
