The best coffee in Seattle is not to be confused with Seattle’s Best Coffee. Or Starbucks. Even if the original Starbucks is located in Seattle.

IMG_2535Starbucks is fine in a pinch…but for truly great coffee? No. I love my coffee served au lait (soy lait, preferably) in a mug or latte style with a beautiful design created by a friendly barista. So, let’s explore the gourmet Seattle coffee shops, shall we?

Is the best coffee found at Victrola Coffee Roasters?

They sure make a pretty latte.IMG_2500

And a heart-warming cafe au lait.IMG_2501

And their walnut anise biscotti was tasty, even though the anise flavor was a little weak for me.

I did love their pretty little plates (see above) and the brick interior (see below).

Or was the best coffee found at the famous Caffe Vita?

The interior was cozy with dark, rich colors.IMG_2510

And, they also made  a pretty latte.

But they slopped my cafe au lait so they lose points for that.

Or how about the other famous Seattle coffee shop, Stumptown?

I liked their modern and light-filled interior.IMG_2530

Stumptown made a fancy schmancy mocha latte.

My top picks, listed in order!

  1. Victrola Coffee Roasters
  2. Stumptown
  3. Caffe Vita

What’s your favorite coffee spot in Seattle?

I need a list of new places to explore on my next trip!

    1. AH! I have been to Victrola and Stumptown! I think Stumptown’s coffee is amazing. My cousin from Seattle sent me a huge jar of their coffee beans for Christmas!!

    2. I liked that first one best…Victrola, I think? So pretty…it looks like you had so much fun trying out all these delicious coffees! I’m a big coffee fan, so I’m just a wee bit jealous. Also, I’m glad someone else thinks Starbucks is overrated. Their coffee always tastes burnt and overly acidic to me. There are so many other great options elsewhere, as you’ve demonstrated with your lovely photos.

    3. I love Seattle coffee, I used to work in a coffee ship in college – the Allegro Cafe, one of the original coffee shops that started in 1970! It lives in an alleyway in the University District.
Out of the 3 you mentioned, I go with Vita. I actually think Stumptown started in Portland, but I might be wrong.
Glad you enjoyed your coffee here!

    4. Stumptown did start in Portland but they have a decent presence in Seattle now too.

I’ve been tainted for life now that I have to go back to mediocre coffee shops! 🙂

    5. I use a milk frother to make foam in my coffee…it’s a little whip that came with a hot chocolate set from Williams & Sonoma. I’m sure you could just buy a milk frother and it would be pretty cheap!

    6. As a Portland native, I should say Stumptown, but the Stumptown on 12th gets pretty busy and the baristas there can get a little snobby sometimes.
I’ve never been to Victrola, but I love Caffe Vita, so I’d say definitely Caffe Vita!
