Hi guys! I’m up in the sky! I’m headed to Portland to run the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon tomorrow! I can’t wait – I booked this trip in February and have been so excited about it. But I never get excited to leave this sweet little thing. I had my typical smother-the-pup goodbye yesterday.
I’ve been so excited for this race, especially after I ran so strong last weekend. However….I had a little mishap at the gym on Monday and haven’t been able to run all week. I could barely walk for a couple days. This is a pic of the bruise on Tuesday – pretty nasty. It’s even darker and nastier looking now but I forgot to take a picture this morning. Lucky you. 😉
My boyfriend and I were at the gym and he was sitting on the leg extension machine and I was standing (a little too close to the machine) talking to him. He started his set, which always uses a lot of momentum on the first rep, but he didn’t have a lot of weight on the bar, so when he pushed it up, the moving bar that sticks out towards the front flew up and nailed my leg. HARD. I groaned, people stared, then I cried. It was bad. He obviously feels terrible. I iced it immediately and for the next two days but you can still see the swelling on my thigh through my pants and skirts. 🙁
I am actually kind of nervous to run on it. I tried to run around the block yesterday, about a quarter of a mile, and it was throbbing and there was so much pressure. I had my friends look at it (she’s a PA and her fiancé is a resident) and they diagnosed a ecchymosis. Basically a large bruise. 🙂 I was worried there might be something else wrong since the swelling wouldn’t go down and was worried I’d damage it more by running a half marathon but they eased my mind and settled my paranoia. So…hopefully the pain and swelling go down by tomorrow AM.
I’m not going to worry about a PR tomorrow but am just going to enjoy the scenery – the race runs through the vineyards! We’ll be in the Willamette Valley for a couple days, then will spend some time in Portland before heading up to Seattle to see my bestie Courtney. I can’t wait!! It’s going to be a go-go-go trip but I know we’ll have a great time with great food and great wine!
I’ll try to pop in with some pictures during my trip but if I don’t, I have some sweet giveaways lined up for you to keep you entertained. I’ll give you a hint of how great these giveaways are – one item I use almost every day and one item I like so much that I’m traveling with it. 🙂
Have a great holiday weekend! Hope y’all are up to something fun!
PS – I just realized I still haven’t shared Utah pics yet. I need to! I can’t believe it’s already been 3 weeks since I was there. whoops!

atOh no! I hope you feel better and are able to run tomorrow! Have so much fun in the pacific northwest, that is one of two parts of the country I have yet to see and would so love to soon!

atYou’ll be in my neck of the woods. It’s gorgeous here now, and I hope you enjoy despite your bruise. I am a PT and my advice is to alternate heat and ice. You may have a bone bruise as well which takes good old fashioned time to heal. Take it easy and enjoy the scenery!

atthanks for the tip! I always forget about heat! I ice but never heat.
It really is gorgeous here. Yesterday’s weather was unbelievable!
