The Blue Ridge Food & Wine Festival

This past weekend was The Blue Ridge Wine & Food Festival in Blowing Rock, NC. Blowing Rock is cute little mountain town with fun shops and pretty views.

I headed up to meet my friend Emily. We got to know each other through blogging, met about a year and a half ago in Asheville and totally hit it off. She is no longer blogging but we’ve kept in touch and had some especially good times during the Blue Ridge Relay. I finally got to meet her husband Russell this weekend! They met me in Blowing Rock for a fun day of tasting North Carolina, California, Oregon and a few international wines.

We got our wristbands and headed in to the tent.

It was unfortunate that it was inside a tent when it was so beautiful outside, but better than the event being rained out! Ya never know about weather this time of year.

The “food” part of the festival was also a little unfortunate. Fresh fruit, chicken skewers and a few pieces of yucky looking bruschetta. I mean, I love me some fresh fruit but I wouldn’t call that spread something worthy of a wine & food festival.

I had such a great time hanging out with Emily. I’m convinced she needs to move to Winston Salem, and spent a good portion of the day trying to convince her husband of that also. I believe at one point during the day I told Russell that “I’m the best, most fun version of myself” when I hang out with Emily. Granted, that may have been the wine speaking, but I don’t think so. 😉

After incessantly giggling, we were finally able to pull ourselves together to get a picture where we were both looking at the camera.

After the disappointing food, we went to a nearby chocolate shop for a little sweet treat.

We walked around town a bit more and had a great meal before saying goodbye.

It was a perfect day and was so fun to see Emily again! I’m so happy that the festival season is here in North Carolina and look forward to many more fun outings with friends. Last year, I went to the Tanglewood Wine Festival with Lori and Michelle from Pure2Raw & Twin Cakes Bakery. I feel so lucky to have made such great friends through blogging!

Which do you think is more important at a food & wine festival: good food or good wine? Since I have some dietary preferences/restrictions, I’d rather have good wine because the decadent food for the masses usually doesn’t agree with my belly anyway. 🙂

Did you stop at Kilwin’s for chocolate? They’re sooo good. I go to school down the road in Boone and when the weather’s nice my friends and I will go walk around Blowing Rock, and the smell coming from Kilwin’s always sucks us in.

Yep, that’s where it was! It smells sooooo good! That’s so fun you go to App State! Boone is SUCH a cute town! I ate at Boone Bagelry and about DIED at how good those bagels are! I might need you to ship them to me weekly! 😉

Boone Bagelry is the best! They even deliver, which is a little dangerous. My roommate and I have definitely called them up more than one occasion when the weather is gross.

I love wine festivals! And yeah… if I went to a “wine & food festival” I’d definitely have higher expectations for the food!
