The Easiest Way to Cut an Avocado

You guys know how to dice or slice an avocado, right?

I’m gonna tell you how I do it…because I’m still kind of surprised when I see people fumbling with an avocado, trying to peel it and then slice it. It creates a mushy mess and a lot of precious avocado gets wasted.

How to peel an avocado

So, here’s how:

1. Cut it in half all the way around, vertically, and twist. If you’re using the whole thing, carefully stab the pit with a sharp knife and twist to remove and discard. If you’re only using half, leave the pit in and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. The pit will help keep it fresher longer.

2. Leaving the peel on, slice and dice the avocado right in the peel.

3. Then use a spoon to scoop it out.

You won’t make a slimy mess and you won’t waste any avocado.

If there is any left in the skin after you scoop out the diced avocado,  sprinkle a little salt on it and spoon it right from the peel to your mouth. 🙂

Easy.

I do it the SAME way. I always get confused when I watch people fumble around with an avocado. This is by far the EASIEST way to do things!

Don’t stab the pit with a knife! Just got six stitches in my left hand last week from a stabbing mishap and a stubborn avocado.

I’ve been cutting avocados like this for a while, but it wasn’t until recently that I realized that the same technique is applicable to a mango!

I do it the same way myself. Sometimes just slices, not cubes.
Some times I use the knife instead of a spoon to scoop out the “meat”. This works as long as the avocado is not too ripe.

Avocados are one of my biggest LOVES. I wish I could grow them up here in rainy Seattle weather. A little lime, pink salt…. heaven on a plate!

Aha – yes! The only way I’ve ever sliced an avocado as well! 🙂

It took all my willpower not to rip an avo out of my mother in law’s hands one day when she was cutting it in slices and then peeling back the skin on each individual piece. It was brutal to watch! 😉
