The Weekender

Good morning! Thank you all so much for your sweet words on yesterday’s post. I’m still bummed about some things, but I’m feeling much better this morning. Really, each and every comment cheered me up. Thanks for being such great “blends.”

I know I shouldn’t feed my emotions, but I may or may not have had this for breakfast.DSC_0895-1That would be Whole Foods strawberry-lemonade and pineapple-basil gelato. Actually, I think they were sorbets. Sometimes you just gotta have dessert for breakfast. (Speaking of Whole Foods gelato, if your location has the orange-fig flavor, TRY IT. You can thank me later.)

Right now, I have a batch of Ashley’s Quinoa Granola in the oven, so I will be getting a normal breakfast soon. I had to tweak it a little based on what I had on hand, so I’ll let you know how my version turns out.

Alright, on to the latest edition of The Weekender:

  • I loved Janetha’s list of fives. I never knew what a “weenis” was. My life has changed. (It’s not what you think it is, you pervert. :))
  • Do you think cupcakes are still a “craze” and trendy? Or are they here to stay? This CNN article discusses it and lists 5 places to get delicious cupcakes (hey, one is in NC!).
  • I was pretty disappointed in this article on orthorexia. It doesn’t address the fact that a vegan, vegetarian, or raw diet can be done healthfully. People with orthorexia have more mental and emotional issues going on than anything else. They make it sound like anyone that is vegan, vegetarian, or a raw foodist has orthorexia. Not true!
  • I loved this post on taking bold actions from A Beautiful Ripple Effect.
  • I don’t have a baby and I’ve obviously never breastfed, but seriously, this is freaking HILARIOUS.

Hope you enjoyed those reads! My BFF Courtney offered to take me on a fun-run to cheer me up today, so I’m looking forward to that. No big plans this weekend, which is sometimes quite nice.

Did you come across any great blog posts or articles this week? Do share!

What’s your favorite flavor of gelato?

WOW. That gelato looks awesome. I know what’s on my shopping list!

My favorite gelato flavor is Tiramisu. The best version of it was pretty authentic: on my honeymoon cruise thru the Mediterranean, we stopped in Florence for some. We pretty much ate gelato in EVERY Italian town we were in!!!

    That breastfeeding post is hilarious!

Hmmm, that looks delicious although I would need that with a major side of PB toast or something. The WF that I go to doesn’t have a gelato bar…there are THREE WF’s within 2m of me…crazy, no? THere is 1 HUGE store that has it but I don’t go there b/c it is usually a mad house. “Blends” LOL…too funny, have never heard that…Hope the quinoa granola turned out okaaaaay!!

That breast feeding post was awesome, but I totally would have done that to a bra instead of a t-shirt! Support + air dry = awesome (and SEXY). Seriously. Think about it. Now I just need to remember that for like 10 years from now.

I haven’t had gelato in awhile.. is there such a thing as vegan gelato? Lol. I could have sworn that there was.. or maybe I’m just delusional. Totally possible.

Great list of five! I love when people making lists of cool articles/posts.

Yes, Whole Foods has vegan gelato sometimes! I’m not sure how that works, but I’ve seen it. 🙂

I want to go ahead and post this recipe, but with a bit of a warning. This is not your typical gelato.

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/deeply-chocolate-gelato-recipe/index.html

    Deeply. Chocolate. Gelato.

It’s an Ina Garten dessert which guarantees two things at the absolute least:

    A) It will more than likely have enough fat and/or sugar to instantly paralyze a small infant.

    B) Will rock your face off quicker than a nuclear explosion via your backyard.

Glad to hear you are feeling better! So I am in Charlotte and contemplating driving up to Winston Salem or Raleigh just to go to whole foods once wknd and if I do, I am so hitting up that cupcake place! Margarita cupcake?? Sign me up please.

I haven’t been able to read as much online or blogs this wk due to being crazy at work but I am agreeing with you on Janetha’s “Five” Post. I saved it to my favorites because I think it is one of most enjoyable posts I ‘ve EVER read. Happy Sunday!
