Alas, it’s nearly the end of the weekend. I just wrapped up this evening with an outing to First Street Draught House. I went with 1/2 salad + 1/2 soup. Greek salad + chili for me (along with a pumpkin beer + a few sips of a hefeweizen). I feel like I haven’t had any greens in days so I eased back into it with a 1/2 salad. 🙂 Ever since I hurt my knee last weekend, I’ve been craving carbs like crazy – not sure if it’s the comfort food craving kicking in or if it’s something to do with not working out that is making me crave carbs and not greens/meat like normal. But, regardless, I’m trying to get back on the healthy food wagon.Â
My knee is looking a million times better and my hands are all scabbed up. I think I may even try to go to the gym tomorrow to do upper body weights. If I get there and it hurts my hands, I can at least do some crunches or something. The time off from working out has been kind of nice but I’m starting to feel yucky. I’m craving a good sweaty workout!Â
Anyway, here are some of my favorite links from last week. Enjoy!Â
The Weekender
- I thought this was a super interesting read about CrossFit. I’m sure CrossFit junkies have tons of opinions on it; I’m not anti or pro CrossFit. It’s not really my thing (after two classes) but the article was interesting to me.Â
- Wanna be happy? (Duh, of course we all do.) I liked these tips. This made me laugh: “Stop with the crazy making.” I also really like the book The Four Agreements referenced in the article. Worth checking out, if you haven’t!
- I want this new garmin running watch. I WANT.
- OMG.
- What’s the best way to relieve sore muscles?Â
- Good read on how the busiest people on earth relax.Â
Alright, I’m going to get ready for bed and turn in early. I’m exhausted! Well, maybe I’ll catch up on a TV show or two first. 😉 I’m so excited about Nashville and Scandal being back on!
What TV shows are you most excited about this fall?

atBlahhhh I super hate that crossfit article. Disclaimer: I’m super pro crossfit. But rhabdo is not a secret at all. For anyone who crossfits, it’s a known ‘danger’ but happens super seldom. Usually after an extremely extremely intense workout or many workouts in a row. When you signed your waiver for those two classes, you certainly signed that you ‘knew the dangers of rhabdo’ whether you read it or not. So yeah , not that it’s not dangerous but it’s also not ‘hidden’ from anyone

atI’m with you on this –
I’m not pro or anti-Crossfit either. I’ve actually never tried it out – mainly for cost reasons. But I’m an avid runner and gym-goer (weights, etc).
In my humble opinion, the dangers of NOT working out are far more rampant and potentially fatal (again, not to say that this condition is NOT terrible/dangerous, but that the sudden overkill of these articles is a tad suspect in timing…) to the majority of our human race. Just as in ANY exercise, there are risks. Know your limits.

atSorry – had to jump back in and add that I just read the Crossfit Journal article on the subject: http://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf/38_05_cf_rhabdo.pdf
(yes, gross image)
Interesting to see that the journal does seem to acknowledge: ‘…we now find ourselves obligated not just to explain CrossFit’s potency but to warn of its potential lethality’ in regards to this condition.
So it is Crossfit’s own community that is bringing this to the forefront as well, which I didn’t realize. It can’t reallybe said then that Crossfit is under attack when it is something their publication feels necessary to highlight…..
Know your own limits still applies, though.

atThe time off from working out has been kind of nice but I’m starting to feel yucky. I’m craving a good sweaty workout! – That’s me too! I PR’d a half marathon (1:40!!!) On Sept 8th and then strained my hamstring badly, then last Tuesday I had hernia repair surgery. I’m really starting to feel gross 🙂 Also, the garmin link wouldn’t work, mines pretty old and a new one would be a great thing for my Christmas list. Glad your knee is feeling better!
