Happy Sunday! I hope you guys have had a great day. I have been at the beach for the past week and just got home yesterday afternoon, so I spent today adjusting to reality and getting things done around the house.
I started my day with a 10 mile run. John had made some apple-beet-carrot juice yesterday, and I had about a cup of that before we headed out to the Muddy Creek Greenway to run. We averaged about a 7:50 pace. My left hip flexor was really tight and sore for about the first 5 miles, but it finally loosened up and I was able to finish strong.
After the run, I cut the grass, went to two groceries stores, did a ton of meal prep (I’m SO proud of myself because I never do that!), took care of some finances/budget stuff, and did laundry. Needless to say, I’m pooped! Maizey is too. She is always exhausted for a few days after coming home from summer camp (i.e. the kennel).
Whole Foods was having their 20% off case wine sale, so I restocked. I have been focusing on buyer nicer wines and really savoring them. I got a bunch of Oregon Pinot Noirs and Pinot Gris; I’ve been obsessed with Oregon wines ever since my trip to the Willamette Valley last year.
I also loaded up on greens – kale, spinach, dandelion, cilantro, and parsley. Lots of green smoothies in my future this week. I gotta detox from a week of drinking on the beach. 😀 All the wine I bought is gonna have to sit and wait on me for a few weeks.
Alright, onto the weekender! Here are some good reads I found last week!
The Weekender
- I should have read this last week: how to unplug on vacation.
- For some reason, taking a trip alone has always been on my bucket list.
- So excited for fall fashion! Here are the top fall trends for 2014 according to the lovely J.
And here’s how I worked out last week.
Last week’s workouts
S – ran 5.2 miles, 8 minute/mile pace
M – ran 3.7 miles, 7:53 pace
T – Barre class at Carolina Beach rec center
W – ran 5.10 miles, 7:45 pace
Th – gentle yoga overlooking the ocean!! and then I ran 4.4 miles, 7:05 pace
F – self-guided yoga practice
S – rest
It was hot and crazy humid at the beach last week, but I was still able to get in some decent runs and a great self-guided yoga practice. I need to share my approach to working out when I’m on vacation…but that will wait for another day! 🙂
Have a great week!
Do you have a hard time unplugging while on vacation? I totally do…mostly because it’s a total habit to look at my phone…incessantly. Ugh. I’m a little better with email, but I constantly check twitter and instragram.

atLove that article about traveling alone! I’ve done shorter trips by myself – some international, some domestic… it’s incredibly relaxing and perfect for an introvert like me 🙂
