Last Week’s Outifts

I have been working in financial services for over 8 years. For 2.5 of those years, I had to wear suits to work, and the rest of the time I was dressing business casual (with more emphasis on business than casual). So, I have a wardrobe full of business attire and not much casual attire other than shorts, t-shirts and casual dresses. I’m now at a place where I can dress more casually, i.e. JEANS!, but I’m realizing I don’t have much that works for work.

I feel a bit weird dressing down at work after 8 years, but I think I’ll be able to adjust just fine. 😉 However, I still want to look sharp and professional so I think when I wear jeans, I’ll be pairing them with heels, a blazer or a nice blouse. Or all three. And the majority of the time, I’ll probably still be sticking to dresses and my beloved Banana Republic Sloan Slim Ankle Pants.

I’m also trying to dress a bit more polished on the weekends. So, I’m posting work outfits and some weekend attire too. I linked to the items when they’re available online and noted if anything is on sale.

Last week’s work outfits

I always try to have some type of layer since I get hot and cold throughout the day with the A/C, walking outside and then warming up from drinking excessive amounts of green tea.IMG_7683IMG_7684
top: J.Crew Factory | Jeans: J.Crew (very old) | flats: Cole Haan (sold out online) | linen blazer: J.Crew Factory

I love the neckline of this dress…IMG_7709

But I had to cover it up with a scarf most of the day because I was freezing! I don’t think the purse really worked with the scarf but whatevs.

dress: Nordstrom | scarf: Nordstrom | heels: Banana Republic

I love that this dress has pockets. And I love pairing the spiky necklace with a dress. Girly rocker, yes?

dress: Anthropologie (old) | necklace: J.Crew (gift last year) | heels: Ann Taylor (50% off right now!)

I couldn’t decide whether I liked this shirt tucked in or left out. So….I alternated throughout the day. I also need to take it to my tailor (if you’re local, Hawthorne Alternations is the BEST) to have the neckline stitched a bit. It goes way too low. By the way, these Banana Republic heels are seriously so comfy. Buy them.

Last week’s casual outfits

dress: J.crew (old) | belt: Banana Republic (old) | necklace: Stella & Dot (gift) | sandals: DV by Dolce Vita

This top is like 6 years old and I never wear it. It had a little waist tie that I hated. So I took it off, cut off the little loops and I wore it flowy. I like it…I think.
IMG_7783Top: Banana Republic (ancient) | shorts: J.Crew (currently on sale!) | sandals: J.Crew Factory

This is my favorite go-to dress for a night out. So comfy and hides a full belly. 🙂IMG_7649Dress: Five Bamboo | purse: Nordstrom Rack | wedges: Ann Taylor | necklace: Speakable

These sandals have been my best summer purchase. They were $10 at Old Navy and are seriously so comfy, even walking alllll over town.IMG_7668blouse: Ann Taylor (currently on sale!) | purse: Nordstrom Rack | shorts: J.Crew Factory (last year) | sandals: Old Navy | sunglasses: Wantable

What stores do you consistently shop at? Clearly, I’m a Banana Republic and J.Crew Factory girl. I know their sizing and they always have sales. Never, ever pay full price there folks. I recently started shopping at Ann Taylor and have liked them too. I use Nordstrom for expensive purchases, like purses and shoes, because they have a great return policy, and I always get steals at the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

    1. you are the cutest! i am a total madewell / zara / everlane lady, although i have found some new ones lately like bridge + burn, need supply + a cute boutique that opened by my house i like 🙂

p.s. that black sheath dress looks effin classy on you!

    2. All of your outfits are so cute! I’m a big Nordstrom and Gap fan, but I also find things at J. Crew Factory, Banana Republic, and LOFT quite often. Their stuff always seems to last and I like their classic pieces. I can’t wait for fall so I can break out all my coats, scarves and boots! I feel so much more put together when I can layer more!!

    3. I know it sounds ‘old lady’ but Talbots is great for staple pieces. They have great sales this time of year. It’s wear I buy coats and tops because they don’t have any great pant styles for the younger crowd. Their cardigans are cute as well. For everything else that I just wear for one season I like to hit Old Navy and TJMAXX.

    4. I love this!! Do more outfit posts! 🙂 We shop at similar places. I find a lot at Old Navy, Banana Republic (yay petites!), Loft, and Target.

    5. Cute! I love all your outfits, you look super pulled together. I am feeling super blah about my wardrobe lately and really need to do some shopping but I need to figure out exactly what I want/need so I can get some really focused purchases that I’ll get a lot of use out of!
