There was a time in my life (i.e. early on in my career) where my entire closet consisted of black, gray and navy. And yes, I still have lots of black, gray and navy. But I also really love color now and have realized that I get lots of compliments when I wear bright colors. And even more important, I just feel great in bright colors, confident and outgoing. Not that I’m shy, but I do have lots of introvert tendencies so I’ll take all help I can get to get me out of my comfort zone. Because to be honest, my comfort zone will always be a little black dress. (I have 5 that I rotate among, depending on the occasion. For work, this, this, and this. And for play, this and this.)
Anyway – back to color! I especially love bright yellow these days. I have a yellow dress from J.Crew that I bought years ago and it’s still one of my favorite things to wear in the spring and summer. And the great thing about yellow is that it’s surprisingly versatile and pairs with SO much. It works well with all that navy and all that gray in my closet. And yes, in the right combination, it even pairs with black. Although my favorite pairing is probably yellow with white. It’s just so light and summery.
Below are some lovely yellow items I’m eyeing! (Bonus, a number of the items are from Ann Taylor, who has 40% off right now with code GETDRESSED.) Shorts with a long-sleeved top is one of my faaaaavorite combos (see?) so I especially want the yellow gingham top to wear with my white shorts. And I love the yellow accessories for the days when I want to wear neutral colors with a little pop.
