It’s August 26 and you know what that means? It’s my dad’s birthday! 😉 Happy birthday Dad!!! I love you so so much and can’t wait to see you in October!!! (Mom – show Dad this blog post okay? 😉 )
AND, it’s also National Dog Day! Two great reasons to celebrate! Maizey loves my dad so it’s very fitting. 😉 She also loves when he makes breakfast. Me too, Maizey. Me too.
Happy National Dog Day!
I think every dog owner jokes that every day is National Dog Day since we all spoil our pooches, but I actually love an excuse to give Maizey extra attention. Sometimes I feel guilty that she doesn’t get enough attention with so much going on right now with work, travel, moving and the wedding. And while I KNOW she’s fine, I’m happy to have a special day to give her a little extra attention and to reflect on how grateful I am for her!
Maizey has been my baby for almost 9 years and has been with me through a lot of life changes – moves, jobs, relationships. She’s been a constant when so much has changed, and she always helps keep life interesting when I’m in a good steady flow.
People in my apartment building are always surprised by how active and energetic she is given that she is almost 9, and I credit it to two things: exercise and high-quality food. I mean, that’s how humans feel their best so it makes sense that doggies feel their best with those two things too!
Wellness Core Dog Treats
Maizey loves treats, just like her mom, and she LOVES the Wellness Core 100% Freeze-Dried Treats. They’re made with pure, freeze-dried raw meat and nothing else. Since I rarely give her table scraps, she gets excited to have real meat. And I like knowing that I’m not giving her treats with icky fillers and who-knows-what-else ingredients. The freeze-drying process keeps all of the nutrients intact, so the treats are rich in minerals and enzymes. And, they’re high in protein, which she definitely needs to keep her muscles strong so she can take me on lots of hilly walks downtown. 🙂 We both can’t wait for this heat to break so we can resume our longer walks!! We’ve been doing a lot of sitting on our walks lately.
Dogs instinctively crave raw animal protein and I know Maizey loves the Wellness Core RawRev food and freeze-dried treats since she’ll eat them without any coaxing. (She’s been a picky eater her whole life.) I often find her poking her head into the pantry looking for them, that little stinker.
My best pupgirl
To celebrate, I’m taking Maizey on an “adventure walk” where we go somewhere off our beaten path. She loves all the new smells! And she’ll definitely get some extra treats and snuggles too. 🙂
And because I can’t resist, I’m sharing a couple more of my favorite Maizey photos lately. 🙂 Oh my gosh, look at her gray face!!!!

She LOVED meeting Sara’s french bulldog, Winston. (And I loved meeting a Instagram friend in real-life!)
Your turn: What kind of dog do you have and what’s his/her name? And how did you pick the name?
Big thank you to Wellness Core for sponsoring this post and for the huge supply of dog treats!!! Maizey and I are both grateful!
Sara @ Oats & Rowsat
I have a wired hair( so not curly) Labradoodle. Her name is ginger AKA gingerdoodle. We chose ginger on a ride home after picking her up and her name suits her perfectly.
We have a four month old goldendoodle named Penny. After much deliberation over a name – there are four of us trying to agree, after all – it was a last-minute “entry” that stuck.
